Etowah High School Dedicates 9/11 Memorial

Etowah High School on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 dedicated its 9/11 Memorial on the school’s campus with a special ceremony that was open to the community and attended by guests including elected officials and local first-responders.  The memorial, which depicts the New York City skyline with open spaces where the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers once stood, was funded with money raised by students and staff and was constructed by the school’s art teachers, Bob Putnam and Josh Saye, and contractors, Jack Stone and Tim Westmoreland.  The project, which began last year in honor of the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, was part of an initiative by the Class of 2012 to increase the school’s community service efforts.  To date, that initiative has resulted in Etowah HS students completing more than 26,000 hours of community service.
