Watching 'Mayberry' ('Andy Griffith Show') with my ex's son. Innocence, wisdom, humor all without being trivialized. A timeless thread to grow on for both of us.

I've watched Any Griffith for about 65 years in various shows. I could always depend on them being clean and interesting.

I always wished I could live in a small town like Mayberry. Everyone knew each other and cared about each other. Andy Taylor was the law, but in a way that helped people, not just punished them. I think of Otis knowing to come sleep it off where he was safe, of Aunt Bee's concern, of the wisdom and grace shown. It has taken me a long to get it thru my head that this was just a TV show, that people aren't like that. But I still wish I could live there!

The episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" where the fairly objectionable "city guy" comes through Mayberry driving a '62 or '63 Lincoln Continental. The car breaks down and the guy is so impatient with everyone and everything in the little country town. He does something minor and Andy arrests him. City guy spends a couple of hours in jail and then Andy take him home with him. Barney comes over and Aunt Bee makes a wonderful dinner. After dinner everyone sits out of the front porch. It is a comfortable evening. City guy is still a little impatient as Barney draws his attention to the apple peel that he's just pared away in one piece. It's too triffling for City Guy. But the big moment come as City Guy is already slowly warming up to things when Andy and Barney harmonize "The Church in the Wildwood" just for the pleasure of those assembled on the little porch. It's a pivotal moment for the character and us watching too. Regardless of Andy's and Don Knotts' passing, and regardless of your faith or religious affiliation, if you can hear the two of them harmonize on that sweet song and not get at least a little lump in your throat, you probably need to look pretty hard at the priorities in your life like City Guy did. Goodbye, Andy. You left a little bit of Mayberry in all our hearts.
