A Woodstock soldier died Tuesday in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries from an unspecified incident that was not combat-related. Army Spc. Gary L. Nelson III, 20, was participating in Operation New Dawn.
Atlanta Gas will invest $100 million in Cherokee County to construct 14 miles of pipes. Construction will begin this fall and take approximately one year to complete. See a video Tuesday's County Commission meeting.
In police news, six juveniles face loitering and criminal trespass charges after creating a makeshift skate park in a vacant building on Main Street. The Woodstock police arrested the juveniles Thursday after a citizen called in the suspicious behavior.
The Woodstock Police Department released video surveillance images of a man and woman believed to be involved in a stolen vehicle and credit card theft case. The police are encouraging anyone who recognizes these individuals to call them at 770-592-6030.
Two Cherokee men were also arrested Thursday as part of a statewide child porn investigation. Derek Joseph Long, 27, of Woodstock, was charged with one count of sexual exploitation of children after images of suspected child porn were found on the computer.
Cherokee County students had a week off from school and FoxTale Book Shoppe did a week of classes for the kids. Wednesday’s class was an Origami Workshop, and you can flip through the slideshow to see the students creating different objects with a single sheet of paper.
