In the first half, both teams were eager to score, but Crown, a Christian home school club team, was able to create more opportunities. The Knights were awarded a penalty kick midway to the half when Zach Downing sent a ball to A.J. Redlinger, who was tripped up in the box by the GCA goalkeeper. Redlinger promptly sent the PK into the upper part of the net, and the Knights took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Going into the second half, Crown came out strong. The Knights would add to their lead when Kevin Brock shot a ball past the diving GCA keeper and into the left corner of the net. Brock nearly scored again a few minutes later, but his shot hit the crossbar.
Late in the game, the Jaguars finally got on the scoreboard when Joel Greve sent a long ball to Kevin Block. Crown goalkeeper Luke Williams came off his line, but Block chipped the ball past him and tucked it into the net. However, the Knights were able to hold onto the score 2-1 for the win, notching their 20th victory on the season.
Crown Coach Chris Cordery said his boys finished their 20-3-1 season strong.
"I think during the season, the boys did great,” Cordery said. “Today, I think they were a little tired. They played two tough games on Saturday. I thought the guys played well. It's unfortunate that we didn't score a few more goals, but they did good, they hustled and they finished strong, so I really appreciate their effort.”
