Future Cable Needs on Today's Agenda
Patch will provide live coverage of today's work session and regular meeting starting at 3 p.m.
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners meets at 3 p.m. for its work session and 6 p.m. for its regular meeting. Among the items on the agenda:
- Commissioners will hold a public hearing for those in the Comcast franchise area. The county wants to, among other things, identify future cable needs and interests. Open the PDF to review the final draft of a franchise agreement between Cherokee County and Comcast.
- County Manager Jerry Cooper will ask commissioners to give MUST Ministries $153,876 to acquire property at 111 Brown Industrial Pkwy., Canton. The money, part of the county's Community Development Block Grant program, had been set aside for an "Activity to Be Determined," according to the agenda. The board will have to approve amendments to the program's 2010 and 2011 action plans first.
- Also, Cooper will ask commissioners to rescind the bid the board awarded to the Atlanta Hawks at the Oct. 18 meeting. The Hawks got the bid over Chandler Graphics in Canton because the NBA franchise agreed to produce theCherokee County Youth Basketball league's uniforms at a cost of $22.50 per uniform. Since the Oct. 18 meeting, the Hawks "have requested multiple changes to the standard professional services agreement and bid a different uniform than the one specified in the request for bid packet," according to the agenda. Cooper will ask the board to award the bid to Chandler Graphics.
- The FBI will recognize two Cherokee County Sheriff's Office officials whose work was vital in a recent Fulton County Jail corruption case. Lt. Mike Painter and Deputy Alex Rivera provided "substantial assistance" in an investigation that resulted in the June indictment of a Fulton County deputy and three detention officers who allegedly smuggled drugs and cell phones into the Fulton County Jail, the United States Attorney's Office said at the time. The presentation, originally scheduled to take place at the Oct. 18 meeting, was postponed.
