'I Did a Stupid Thing'
An accused shoplifter's shopping list included beer, pornographic magazines and heartburn medication.
A Woodstock man arrested about midnight told police he had done "a stupid thing" after he crashed his car in Cartersville, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office report.
Police say the suspected shoplifter who had just stopped at a Highway 41 convenience store had a lengthy shopping list. Jeffery Deano Neal, 45, is accused of snatching $185 worth of merchandise from the counter.
The clerk told police Neal placed the items— a 30-pack of Bud Light, 12-pack of Corona, 11 porn publications, Pepcid AC, Trojan condoms and several lottery tickets—on the counter as if he were going to pay, then grabbed them and ran out.
She locked the door and called police, and said Neal walked up to the window and knocked on the glass.
Neal then fled, crashing his 2000 Buick LeSabre in the wood line on the on ramp to Highway 411 toward Rome. Deputies returned the alleged stolen merchandise, except for $20 in lottery tickets they didn't find in Neal's car.
"I did a stupid thing," he told deputies after admitting to drinking 12 beers in the prior six hours, according to the report. "Just take me to jail."
