It’s time for summer camp in North Georgia!
Arts and crafts, water play, horseback riding, dance, science, martial arts? It’s time for summer fun! Since school has just ended for kids all across North Georgia, here’s a look at what summer camps can provide. Which will be the most cost-efficient, creative, fun, and safe environment for your children? Below is a Top 10 list for camps in North Georgia:
1. Cherokee Recreation Department: Offers a variety of camps including fishing, water, teen-specific and more including Adventure Camp which travels to various locations.
When: Camp offered each week beginning May 31, ending July 30. No Camp July 4-8. Camp hours are 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
What to Expect: The website offers more information about daily operations as well as a parent handbook.
Registration, Fees & Costs: $25 registration fee per child + 2 weeks in full + $10 non-refundable deposit for each additional week per child. First child is $120. Additional children are $110 per week.
2. YMCA Camps: Cherokee Outdoor YMCA, Woodstock and G. Cecil Pruett Community Center, YMCA
When: May 31-July 29, Camp hours: 9 a.m.–4 p.m. with free pre and post camp available (7 a.m.-6:30 p.m.)
What to Expect: Offers traditional day camp as well as an abundance of specialty camps, including: swim, golf, science, horseback riding, laser tag, mountain biking, hip-hop dance, survivor camp, fishing, arts & crafts, marital arts, rock climbing and the all-new Beyblade camp. All campers swim daily!
Registration, Fees & Costs: Camp fees range from $104/week to $230/week depending on camp selected. Program membership required at $35/year. Transportation available for an additional fee for the Cherokee Outdoor Camp.
3. Elm Street Cultural Arts Village: Offering three different camp programs!
Elm Street Drama Camp:
When: June 13-July 29. Camp hours 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
What to Expect: Campers in small, age appropriate groups perform an original show at the end of the week, receive a script, music CD, T-shirt, see an Elm Street children’s play right here on Wednesday morning and get a DVD of their final performance, per the website.
Registration, Fees & Costs: $75 non-refundable deposit, $225 week with discounts for payment in full, siblings, and multiple weeks.
Arts Up Camp: Sponsored by Arts Alliance of Georgia, Inc.
When: June 6–July 22. Camp hours 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
What to Expect: Drawing, painting, printing making, multi-media, clay, fiber and much more!
Registration, Fees & Costs: $130/week. Fees include all materials. Discounts for siblings.
Bits, Bytes & Bots, Computer Adventures Camp
When: June 6–July 29. Camp hours are 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
What to Expect: Campers participate in games and movies. All campers receive a T-shirt and achievement awards. Other locations include The Lyndon Academy, The Cherokee Arts Center and Brookwood Christian School.
Registration, Fees & Costs: $240 week.
4. Equestrian Camps: Learn to care for and ride horses!
When: Camp runs May 30 through July 29. Camp hours are 9 a.m.–2 p.m. daily.
What to Expect: Novice and Advanced riding camps, ages preschool and up.
Registration, Fees & Costs: $300 per week with discounts for siblings.
Falcon Ridge Stables
When: June 6-10, June 13-17, June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 4-8, July 11-15, July 18-22, July 24-28. These dates are subject to change based on demand and availability. Camp hours are 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. daily.
What to Expect: Summer camp for ages 6-16, with Advanced classes available.

5. Music camps:
Rock on Music, Guitar Camp: Have fun and develop guitar skills!
When/Where: June 6–June 24. Camp hours are 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Choice of three locations: His Hands Church in Woodstock, Calvary Baptist Church in Macedonia or the Community Center at the Bridgemill Fire Department.
What to Expect: In addition to group and individual guitar instruction, campers will also have breaks during the morning for games, guitar videos and social interaction. Guitar Camp will end with a group performance on Friday demonstrating their new skills.
Registration, Fees & Costs: $175 ($25 guitar rental fee if needed). Includes T-shirt and morning snack.
Music Matters, Rock U Camp: Play music and put on a rock concert.
When: June 6-July 22
What to Expect: Instrument Instruction, Style Techniques, Stage Presence & Performance Tips, Soundcheck Techniques, Stage Time with Band, Lead Playing with Instruments, Ear Training, Professional Recording Studio Tour, Effects and Gear Training and Vocalist Specialization.
Registration, Fees &Costs: $449 per week with discounts for multiple weeks.
6. Steve Odom’s Martial Arts Academy Camp
When: June 6-10 and 20-24 and July 11-15 and 25-29. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. with early drop off at 8 a.m. and late pick up at 5 p.m. at $5/hour per child.
What to Expect: Martial Arts Instruction and activities including water day, visits from the fire and police departments, bullying prevention, child safety skills and arts & crafts.
Registration, Fees &Costs: Price: $150 per week with early registration and $165 regular price with a $75 deposit.
7. Club Scientific: Offering 21 different science themed camps including the exploration of robots, veterinary medicine, space, video games and more in eight locations across Georgia. In Woodstock, camps are held at Bascomb United Methodist Church.
When: June 6–July 25, dependent upon camp location. Camp hours are 9 a.m.–4 p.m. with pre and post camp hours available for an additional fee.
What to Expect: The camp provides hands-on National Science Standard activities.
Registration, Fees & Costs: $235/week with discounts for multiple weeks. Some camps require an additional lab fee of $45.
8. Fox Tale Book Shoppe: Offering a variety of two to three day camps exploring literary and artistic creativity, such as book creating, cartooning, improv acting, journaling, as well as “A Daring Camp for Girls” and “A Dangerous Camp for Boys” camp, both themed after the young adult novels of the same titles.
When: June 2–July 22. Camp hours are 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
What to Expect: Each camp offers a unique opportunity for kids to discover and learn about their creative talents.
Registration, Fees & Costs: Fees range from $60- $195 depending on camp selected.
9. Dance and Music Academy of Woodstock: Dance camps for ages 3 years to 5th grade, including Performing Arts and Hip Hop camps along with Princess and Fairy camps just for younger dancers.
When: June 13-July 29. Time varies per camp.
What to Expect: In younger classes, dance, dress-up and arts & crafts. In older classes, professional dance and vocal training.

10. World of Gymnastics & Cheer: Weekly themed camps full of athletics and fun.
When: May 31-July 29, Half-day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and full day 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. with an extended day available for a fee.
What to Expect: Camp includes instructional gym or cheer, inflatable fun, crafts and snacks. Campers staying the full day also enjoy swim time.
