The arrests included a DUI, three traffic charges and four outstanding warrants.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office V.I.P.E.R Unit made eight arrests, 72 traffic stops and 64 business and community contacts during a routine operation Friday.

Capt. Joe Perkins of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office said the operation concentrated on serving outstanding warrants, traffic enforcement and community contacts through foot patrols in southern Cherokee between 4 p.m. and midnight. The arrests included a DUI, three traffic charges and four outstanding warrants.

Perkins said the V.I.P.E.R. Unit is a proactive response to address potential high crime areas in the county.
