Sgt. Jonathan Rogers, Bartow Sheriff's Office spokesman, said major tornado damage has occurred in Adairsville as a tornado hit the area.

"There are accidents, injuries and building entrapments. All available assistance is enroute to the area," Sgt. Rogers said.

The attorney of a man charged with murder in Lilburn says his client feared for his life when he fired the fatal shot that killed a 22-year-old Duluth man.

Phillip Sailors, 69, later was arrested and charged with murder. Rodrigo Diaz, 22, the victim, died from his injuries at Gwinnett Medical Center. Report: Accused Midtown Parking Garage Shooter Confesses - Roswell Patch

Nkosi Thandiwe, the former security guard on trial for the 2011 Midtown shooting that killed Roswell's Brittney Watts and left another paralyzed, took the stand in his own defense Wednesday and confessed to the shooting.

The Flowery Branch High School student who was arrested Tuesday for posting comments about a possible shooting that was to occur at the school is out of jail.

Report: Acworth School That Bans Gays Receives State Funding - Acworth Patch

Some scholarship money generated through a Georgia tax credit program has been used at religious schools that ban gay, lesbian and bisexual students, according to a report released this month.

Two of the schools mentioned in the report from the Southern Education Foundation, an Atlanta education policy group, are in North Cobb.
