River Ridge Wins Geography Bowl
The River Ridge High School students took down Cherokee High for first place.
River Ridge High School students won first place at the Kennesaw State University Invitational Geography Bowl on Friday, April 13.
The quiz bowl format seeded teams from the first 12 rounds and after lunch, teams were seeded according to scores from the first 12 rounds for a "March Madness"-type tournament.
River Ridge went in the second seed and beat Cherokee High School for the win.
Questions covered political, physical and human geography facts.
For example, team member Phillip Aalfs answered the question, “When a river changes its course and leaves a lake behind, what kind of lake is this?”
Answer: Oxbow lake.
The event was sponsored by the KSU Department of Geography and Anthropology and the Georgia Geographic Alliance.
