Woodstock Awaits Santa's Arrival
The annual Christmas Jubilee Parade of Lights starts at 5:30 p.m.
Santa will be parading through Downtown Woodstock Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. before the lighting of the City Christmas Tree at the annual Christmas Jubilee Parade of Lights.
Main Street and Rope Mill Road will close at 5 p.m. for the parade filled with marching bands, designer floats and costumed characters. Towne Lake Parkway at Woodstock Parkway and Main will also close at 5 p.m. The parade starts at the old Walmart on Highway 92 and runs north on Main Street to Woodstock Elementary School.
The event will happen rain or shine. See photos from last year's rainy Christmas Jubilee Parade of Lights.
Mayor Donnie Henriques will recognize the Best Holiday Float and Most Original Float in the Park at City Center following the parade. Kim Jordy, the 2011 Citizen of the Year, will also receive the spotlight from Preservation Woodstock.
Santa will stick around after the parade to visit with children to hear what’s on their wish lists. Kids can also bring their letters to Santa’s Mailbox at the Gazebo till Dec. 19, and he will write back to them.
Woodstock Jaycees are asking for new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations to benefit their local Christmas Toy Drive.
Other events throughout the day include:
- 2 p.m. The Elm Street Players will perform the Little Drummer Boy at the Elm Street Theatre at City Center. It's free admission, but please bring a can of chili, stew or chunky soup to help local food pantries.
- 4:45 p.m. The choral group “Together in Harmony” will be performing before the parade next to the Grand Stand near the red caboose.
- 5:15 p.m. The first ever lit up Woodstock Christmas Run starts down Main Street from Highway 92 in front of the parade.
