Suspects In Custody After Alleged Carjacking, Attempted Robbery
Woodstock Police said Cherokee Bank was the victim of an attempted robbery late Friday morning.
Suspects believed to have been involved in an alleged carjacking and attempted robbery in Woodstock have been taken into custody.
Woodstock Police confirmed Friday afternoon they have the individuals in custody they believe allegedly carjacked someone at Lowe's Home Improvement on Highway 92 and attempted to rob Cherokee Bank.
Woodstock Police Spokesperson Brittany Duncan said the information on the suspects will be released later today.
An alarm call from the bank was placed to the Cherokee County E-911 around 10:45 a.m. Friday and dispatchers informed police that an attempted robbery occurred at the bank, located at 159 Woodstock Square Avenue.
Duncan said the alleged car jacking happened just before the attempted robbery at the bank.
"It is likely the two are related," she said.
Cherokee Bank President and CEO Dennis Burnette said the suspect, wearing a black mask, entered the building, jumped over the teller counter, pointed what appeared to be a gun and demanded money.
"The tellers became quite alarmed and he panicked," Burnette said, adding the suspect left the location immediately after the tellers screamed.
Burnette noted the counters are built to prevent anyone from accessing the areas designated for the tellers, and "as you can imagine, that is quite a sight" to see a suspect jump over the counters.
He noted no one was hurt in the attempted robbery.
"Everybody is fine," he said of his employees. "Obviously they are shaken up.”

Definitely amateurs - seasoned bank-robbers seldom lose their cool, and are usually in and out in under a minute. Sounds like this guy did this on impulse, likely borne of some family-type emergency requiring cash money - the Holidays always cause a spike in this kind of crime.

Yes, no one was hurt. I've also reached out to the bank's president to see if he wants to make any comments...

Thank you so much to the two readers who took the time to comment on a typo. I was so afraid that someone in an effort to put the blame on an unsuspecting African American had actually worn a black man into the bank. Sort of like the wolf in sheep's clothing maybe? Or maybe A Day at Bernie's?

Weekend at Bernie's! Sorry, my bad.
