For one long weekend every year, every classification the GHSA as comes together for the boys track and field state championships, known as the Georgia Olympics. This is the 40th year the event has taken place and it begins at noon today at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Ga. From today through Saturday, starting each day at noon, the best athletes in the state will compete for Georgia’s top honors among the track and field elite. The Etowah Lady Eagles and the Newnan Lady Cougars are both ranked in the top 20 among Georgia high school girls lacrosse teams. On Tuesday, the two will meet in the first round of the state playoffs. Newnan, ranked No. 15, comes into the game having won two of its last four games. The two wins were against teams with losing records, the two losses against winning teams. The 18th-ranked Lady Eagles enter the game having lost their last match, but have won four of their last five.
