When the state’s fifth-ranked Etowah Eagles stumbled a little bit during the last week of the regular season with a loss to Region 5-AAAAA opponents Marietta, 19-2, it was supposed to be just a hiccup, especially since during the regular season finale, Etowah thumped Lassiter to finish the season in a dead tie at the top of the region. The Etowah Lady Eagles and the Newnan Lady Cougars are both ranked in the top 20 among Georgia high school girls lacrosse teams. On Tuesday, the two will meet in the first round of the state playoffs. Newnan, ranked No. 15, comes into the game having won two of its last four games.
