Believe it or not, two hated rivals are in a position to help each other out Friday. Etowah (17-6, 8-1) sits on top of the Region 5-AAAAA baseball standings and travels to Walton (11-11, 3-5) Friday. If Etowah wins, it could help clear the way for Woodstock to move up in the standings. Woodstock (12-11, 3-6) is in sixth place, but could move up into one of the top four spots before the regular season ends. With three games to go and Woodstock just one game out of fourth place, it could happen. Woodstock hosts Lassiter (16-6, 7-1) on Friday and if the Wolverines can pull off the upset, it …
If you crave high school sports, enjoy the River Ridge (2-17, 1-9) baseball team’s game at Pepperell (10-8-1, 4-5) on Thursday, as it’s the only sporting event scheduled for the day in Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch. This will be the second meeting of the season for these two teams. On April 1, the Knights lost a close game at home, 7-6. The Woodstock (12-10, 3-5) baseball team can’t hurt the Etowah Eagles (16-6, 7-1)  when the two teams face each other on Wednesday, at least not in the sense of the Region 5-AAAAA standings. Etowah’s ranked No. 5 in the state and sits on top of the region, with Woodstock in fifth place. But this is a rivalry game, and anything can happen when two teams dislike each other as much as the Eagles and Wolverines do. Etowah beat Woodstock 12-0 on March 29, but don’t let that score be an indication of how Wednesday might go. Woodstock has pride to play for and could easily move up into the top four …

The Etowah (14-6, 5-1) baseball team is ranked fifth in the state, but has no cushion in the 5-AAAAA standings when it hosts Wheeler (13-7, 4-2) on Friday. A misstep by the Eagles not only drops the team into a tie with the Wildcats, but would allow Lassiter to take sole possession of first place in the region with a win. Here's the rest of the high school sports schedule for Friday: Baseball Woodstock at Walton, 5:55 p.m. Adairsville at River Ridge, 5:55 p.m. Wheeler at Etowah, 5:55 p.m. Girls Soccer Woodstock at North Cobb, 5:30 p.m. Boys Soccer Woodstock at North Cobb, 7:30 p.m.   Boys …

In a battle at the top of Region 5-AAAAA play, Lassiter (13-6, 4-1), who sits in second place, travels to Georgia’s fifth-ranked Etowah (14-5, 5-0) for a baseball game that could have huge implications to end-of-year seeding and the state tournament.
