'Love Lights a Tree' Honors Residents Who Battled Cancer

Love Lights A Tree will take place Friday at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Canton.

An annual tree lighting ceremony will pay homage to four Cherokee County residents who lost their battles to cancer in 2012.

Love Lights a Tree will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the gazebo in Cannon Park in downtown Canton. The ceremony is dedicated each year, and benefits the American Cancer Society's local chapter.

The tree will honor the memories of David Cannon (1947-2012), Lowell Lawson (1934-2012), Neal Reece (1935-2012) and Mike Kendrick (1950-2012). Residents were allowed to make a contribution, and decorate the tree with an ornament in dedication to a loved one.

The tree lighting ceremony will be followed by entertainment with dancers from the Academy of Dance Arts and Daily Bread.

The event is free and open to the public to attend.
