Report Lost Pets to Cherokee Animal Shelter

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has a tool in which residents can fill out a lost and found form on its website.

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter now has the capability to allow residents to report their pets missing.

The agency on its website has a tool where residents can fill out a form to alert the shelter of the missing animals. The information will be uploaded into the animal shelter's system, and can be reviewed to determine if any animals brought to the facility matches an owner's description.

In 2011, the shelter had over 5,000 animals turned into its facility. That averages about 450 animals per month or 100 animals on a weekly basis.

Along with submitting the lost and found form, the shelter also encourages residents to visit the shelter, located on 1015 Univeter Road in Canton, to see if their pet has been turned in.

State law requires the shelter to keep an animal for 72 hours before it can be evaluated for adoption or rescue.

For more information, contact the animal shelter at (770) 345-7270.
