CTC Students Give Back

Here is the information you need to know Thursday, Aug. 4.

1. There is a 60 percent chance of rain early this morning to continue last night's showers. The rest of the day will be partly sunny with a high of 97 degrees and heat index values as high as 105, accoring to the National Weather Service.

2. Twenty-six metro Atlanta police departments met to discuss the growing threat of copper thefts. Woodstock was one of the participarting police departments Tuesday's meeting. about tackling this increasing crime in Woodstock's neighborhood.

3. The Downtown Development Authority is hosting its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at 8632 Main St. The board will discuss possible space for themselves and the Visitor's Center at the City Center as well as give updates on the downtown Facade Program Expansion.

4. The "Students for Seniors" group from collected nearly 300 items for the Cherokee County Senior Center. Julia Benavides of Woodstock, Saul Castro of Marietta, Jesse Gonzalez of Kennesaw and Buffie McElwee of Canton did this as part of Instructor Dianne Petty's capstone class for the management and supervisory development program.

5. featuring schools taking precautions in high temperature situations. Cherokee High's football team was questioned about what ways the coaches protect the players when the heat index gets unbearable.
