Faith Needs an Angel

Faith has special needs that require her to live with a special owner.

Faith was discovered by a county animal control officer after she had been left in a house for more than a month without food or water.

Her owner had been taken to a nursing home and Faith had been left behind. By the time she was rescued, poor Faith was extremely emaciated and barely able to walk.

We soon discovered that the persistent food deprivation had left Faith almost skeleton-like, blind in one eye, and with poor balance. Her condition was so bad that euthanization was considered. However, she did not seem to be in any distress, wagged her tail quite a bit, and loved attention. Everyone who met her fell in love with her and thought she was very sweet.

Faith received extensive vet care and then moved into her current foster home. She is now doing great and looks like an entirely different dog. We think she might be a mix of Sheltie/Border collie/shepherd mix/Jack Russell....quite frankly, who knows??

She has gained weight (she now weighs about 40 pounds) and strength, and she is really looking beautiful! She still runs with a slightly odd gait but actually gets around very well.

She is completely housebroken and loves to go outside. She doesn't like the rain...like most dogs...unless we put on her little yellow rain jacket!

Faith is a very, very happy dog and an easy one to have around. For the most part she hangs out in her foster mom's office. She is very content to just snooze for periods of time, and then gets up with her tail wagging and asks to go outside or to play. (Before either of these, however, she will expect a hug.)

Several times a day she becomes quite playful, chases her tail, and runs around the yard in big circles. As you can see in her video, she absolutely loves squeaky toys and will play "fetch" until you (not she!) become tired of it.
We have also discovered that Faith LOVES children...and kids seem to respond very strongly to her as well.

Faith's does have limitations.

Unfortunately, Faith does not get along with other dogs or cats, and will do best if she is the only pet.

Faith struggles a bit with stairs, and will have difficulty in a home where she must frequently go up and down long flights of stairs. She can, however, do a short flight of steps or occasionally a long staircase that is carpeted.

She does not walk well on a leash...although has recently made progress with a harness type...and is not really suited for someone who wants a dog for long walks.

Faith is loaded with personality and has various little quirks that are quite endearing. She bonds very quickly to people and will be totally devoted to her new owner(s).

Faith's foster mom says "Faith is a very, very special dog. She would be a wonderful companion for someone who wants a sweet, funny, playful dog who will give so much love to her lucky family."

Faith has been spayed, tested for heartworm disease (and kept current on heartworm preventative), up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. (We pay for her microchip registration)

She is being offered at a reduced adoption fee because of her special needs status.
