UPDATE: Olde Rope Mill Park Expected To Open Tuesday

Sunday's heavy rains have forced the city of Woodstock to close the park to the public.

UPDATE at 1 p.m.: Despite earlier reports by the city, Olde Rope Mill Park remains closed.

"With concern for public safety, (Olde) Rope Mill Park will remain closed today with waters still rising and swift moving water expected due to typical run off," said Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser.

Pooser added there is no damage to the park, which is expected to re-open Tuesday morning.

Woofstock Park and Dupree Park, on the other hand, are now open to the public.

Heavy rains have forced the city of Woodstock to close Olde Rope Mill Park

The park has experienced minor flooding due to rising waters along Little River, which runs through the park.

As of 7:15 a.m., waters in Little River measured 10.67 feet and were reportedly falling, according to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Division of Emergency Management.

Flood stage for Little River is considered 11 feet. Woodstock City Manager Jeff Moon said the city will review the status of Olde Rope Mill Park on Tuesday.

Meanwhile in Canton, the Etowah River has flowed out of its banks and have spilled into surrounding areas. As of 8:15 a.m., the river was 18.42 feet and is expected to rise to nearly 19.4 feet by Monday afternoon. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by Tuesday morning.

Heritage Park, located behind the Pruett YMCA, is currently underwater. Further downstream near the I-575 bridge, the river stood at 22.63 feet as of 7:45 a.m.

Flood stage for the river is at 17 feet, and waters from the river have covered the grassy lot behind the city of Canton's pump station and the area behind businesses along Old Ball Ground Highway.
