Georgia National Guard Half-Marathon Comes to Canton

The run will be held Saturday morning at Blankets Creek Mountain Bike Trails and will benefit two organizations that help military soldiers and their families.

A race benefitting two military foundations will come to Canton on Saturday.

The Georgia National Guard Half Marathon and Ruck Race will be held at the Blankets Creek Mountain Bike Trails along Sixes Road about two miles west of Interstate 575.

The race starts at 8 a.m. at the trails. To access the trail network from Interstate 575 north, take Exit 11 and turn left onto Sixes Road. Go about 1.8 miles and the Blankets Creek trail head will be on your left. It sits across the street from Cherokee Charter Academy

Patty Baker, Cherokee County's clerk of courts, is partnering with the Georgia National Guard to put on the inaugural race.

Proceeds from the run benefits the Wounded Warrior Project and the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation.

Wounded Warrior provides resources to injured men and women of the United States military while the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation provides emergency assistance to members of the national guard and other service men and women residing in the state.
