KidsFest Returns to Downtown Woodstock

The annual event has been popular with area children and parents.

Looking for an alternative to neighborhood trick-or-treating to take your little ones? The city of Woodstock's annual KidsFest event may be just for you.

The city's festival will kick off Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Park at City Center. The event will include trick-or treating activities for children such as moonwalks, music games, stringed apple and pumpkin bowling games, face painting and a candy giveaway.

A costume contest will start at 6 p.m. and the city will give trophies to the funniest, scariest and best costumes.

Mary Beth Stockdale, special events coordinator with the city, said they are estimating between 1,500 and 2,000 people to come through the park during the event.

"Usually we have about 3,000, but I think the weather and it being a church night might keep the numbers a little down," she added.

Stockdale said the city will have over 38 vendors that will provide free games, crafts and activities for the children. Along with an inflatable play area for toddlers, the Parks and Recreation Department will have about 10 different games for children to participate in.

Stockdale said the event offers more unique activities for children. Along with the music being popular with the children and the stringed apple game serving as a great opportunity for parents to take clever photos of their children, Stockdale also said the costume contest is so popular that even adults are participating.

"It offers a safe alternative to trick or treating and it offers the kids something more than just candy," she said.
