Millage Rate Vote to Come Tonight

Here is the information you need to know Tuesday, Aug. 2.

1. Bring out the sunnies, more sunshine and high temperatures are creeping on Woodstock today. The high will be 97, but of course, it never feels that way. The heat index values as high as 102 degrees, but the low will be 69 this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Woodstock is participating in the beginning at 7 p.m. in the Park at City Center. The is teamed up with National Association of Town Watch to teach drug and crime prevention to local residents while a national effort is occuring simualenously as well. There will be live music, free food, K-9 and SWAT demonstrations, self defense activities, a rock climbing wall, dunk tank and face painting.

3. Congratulations to all the students who completed their first day of school yesterday, congratulations to the parents who dropped off their kids in kindergarden for the first time, and an extra congratulations to the teachers who survived the day. 4. The Cherokee Board of Commissioners will have the fourth and final public hearing on the at 6 p.m. After the public hearing is completed, the board will adopt the millage rates for the county and the Board of Education.

Also on the agenda for public hearings, the board will consider an ordinance to levy and impose a 911 charge on prepaid wireless service at the retail point. The board will also being considering a modification to the Cherokee County Procurement Ordinance to correct a scrivener’s error tonight.

5.  for teens on Tuesdays beginning Aug. 9 from 6-7:30 p.m. The class is $80 and taught by John Horne with the Elm Street Cultural Arts Center.
