The Service League of Cherokee County, organizers behind Riverfest Arts and Crafts Festival, hope to surpass the $53,655 it raised in last year's festival.
"We always want to raise more money than we did last year so we can help more kids in the upcoming year," said Millie Cline, publicity chair for the festival. "The amount of money we are able to raise certainly determines how much casework we are able to undertake in the coming year."
The two day festival will be held next weekend at Boling Park in Canton.
The outdoor festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday Sept. 28 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday Sept. 29 at the park along the banks of the Etowah River next to Cherokee High School.
The juried show will have on hand more than 200 exhibitors, entertainers, concessionaires and arts, crafts and live performances. Admission is a $5 donation for adults and children 11 and older.
The festival is the league's biggest fundraiser, with all proceeds going to help less fortunate children in Cherokee County. Specifically, money raised will help the league provide necessities such as food, clothing, dental care, eyeglasses medical care and scholarships.
Free parking and shuttle services will be available. However, dogs are prohibited in the park per city of Canton ordnance.
The arts and crafts vendors will have hand-crafted works by artists from all over the southeast.
The Service League has also redesigned its children's area, which will have many favorites such as the Lions Club Train, petting zoo and pony rides. Some of the newer options are the hamster bumper balls, a climbing rock wall and an old-fashioned carousel.
Local authors and illustrators of children’s books will also be on-hand to interact with residents throughout the event.
This year, the league will introduce the End Zone, an area in which football fans can visit the tailgating area and check out the scores of the weekend games on big screen televisions.
Its newest cookbook, Gatherings & Traditions, will also be on hand to purchase this year for $14.95. Samples of some of the recipes from the new book will also be presented for tastings.
