Run For Abused Children In Your Superhero Costume

Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children in Cherokee County will hold its second annual Superhero 5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk on Saturday.

Cherokee County's Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children would like to see more people register for its Superhero 5k & 1 Mile Run/ Walk/ Family Fun. 

The second-annual event will be held Saturday on the campus of First Baptist Church of Woodstock. 

Pre-Registration is open until midnight on Thursday and participants can go here to take advantage of the lower cost.

Race day registration & check in begin at 7 a.m. while the festivities will start 7:30am, 5K start is 8am and 1-mile run start is kicks off at 9 a.m. 

Deidre Hollands, executive director of CASA for Children in Cherokee, said about 50 people have signed up so far for the 5K and they'd like to get 300 to participate.

"Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero and run, walk, skip, cartwheel or crawl across the finish line," the organization said in a press release.

WellStar Health System will host kids games and the Atlanta Hawks will bring the Unit 21, a souped up ambulance with attachable hoops and televisions that are equipped with PlayStations. 

CrossFit Emerge will lead the group in pre-race warm up and stretches and the 5k will be its Workout of the Day (WOD). Yong-In Martial Arts will lead the kids through martial arts demonstrations. Festivities also include a bounce house and face painting.

All proceeds with benefit CASA for Children in Cherokee, which is a all-volunteer organization that provides trained volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the justice system. 

The event is part of CASA For Children's commemoration of April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.
