Thanksgiving Closures Announced

Here is the information you need to know Monday, Nov. 21.

1. Today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 73 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 20 percent chance of showers throughout the day. Tonight's low will be 56 degrees.

2. Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, expect the following closures this week:

  • The regular work session for today has been canceled.
  • Public schools  are out from Monday to Friday.
  • City offices are closed Thursday and Friday,
  • Banks and post offices will be closed Thanksgiving day,
  • and will be closed Thursday and Friday.

3. In case you didn't go shopping this weekend, last Sunday was the first day of legal alcohol sales. Packaged alcohol will be purchasable between 12:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays. Here is a list of stores that will sell packaged alcohol on Sundays

4. November is American Diabetes Month. The is hosting free diabetes screenings during the month of November. It's estimated that some 80 million Americans have diabetes or are on the verge of developing this life-threatening disease.

5. Relief has come to a beleaguered local business that was on the verge of being shut down. Ameris Bank has negotiated a loan extension to Hot Dog Heaven. “Right now the bank has asked me to say nothing, but we’ve come to an agreement, and everyone is amiable,” said Becky Wentzel, co-owner of the Main Street restaurant.
