The storm system that required severe weather watches and warnings to the west wasn’t likely to have the same strength once it reaches metro Atlanta later today.
But there’s still a chance for thunderstorms, starting around the afternoon commute. AccuWeather’s hourly forecast expected the rainy weather to be through the area long before midnight.
Earlier on Friday, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a hazardous weather outlook that said strong to severe storms were possible in north Georgia, north of a line from Columbus to Athens.
The Weather Channel still had northwest Georgia with a chance of severe weather early Friday afternoon, but radar showed the system had weakened considerably.
Tonight’s rain will give way to a beautiful, yet cooler, Saturday.
Saturday will be sunny and less humid, with a high temperature of 68 degrees. The overnight low will be in the 40s.
Rain is expected to return Sunday with a high in the low 60s.
