Will Gen. Beauregard Lee See His Shadow Sunday?

On Sunday morning, as they have for years on the annual February 2 Groundhog Day, people will gather in Lilburn to see Georgia's own General Beauregard Lee leaves his burrow 'home' to observe the weather and look for his shadow.

The annual sunrise weather prediction at the Yellow River Game Ranch comes after this week's Winter Storm Leon left much of metro Atlanta frozen for a couple of days. It's safe to say that many are hoping the little fella doesn't see his shadow, meaning spring will come early. Or so the folklore goes.

In Punxsutawney, PA, Punxsutawney Phil will do the same. Beau Lee is expected to make his prediction around 7:15 a.m., while Punxsutawney Phil should make his around 7:20 a.m. EST.

Groundhog history tells us if the groundhog sees his shadow, he takes it as an omen of six more weeks of winter and returns to his hole. If he comes out of hibernation and it’s a cloudy day, there’s no shadow, and it means spring is coming early.

Local forecasters are calling for a cloudy Sunday morning. Last year, the infamous groundhog saw his shadow. Beau Lee will announce his prediction on his Twitter page (@GameRanch).

Witnesses to Beau’s annual prognostication at Yellow River Game Ranch will be admitted for free between 7 and 8:30 a.m., with half-price admittance the remainder of the day.
