Strong winds are expected to develop as a storm system and cold front move into the Woodstock area Tuesday night and Wednesday.
In effect 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, a wind advisory for north and central Georgia, including Cherokee County, warns of 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph, which make driving difficult.
"Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany these winds, but it should be noted that very strong winds will be possible outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity as well," the advisory says. "Recent rains and the additional heavy rainfall anticipated from this system will allow for trees to be uprooted with greater ease."
A squall line capable of producing widespread damaging winds and isolated tornadoes is expected to cross the area Wednesday night, according to NWS' hazardous weather outlook.
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rainfall also can be expected with thunderstorms.
Woodstock has on tap for Wednesday a 100 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, according to the NWS forecast.
The high should reach 65 and gusts of wind could be up to 40 mph bfore the low Wednesday night dips to around 34 and the windy weather tapers off.
