Woodstock Dog Park Ribbon Cutting on Saturday

The city will open the gates at Woofstock Park at 8 a.m. and will hold a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m.

Woodstock's first dog park will open to the public this weekend.

The city will hold a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Saturday July 6, but the city will open the gate at 8 a.m.

The park, located at 150 Dupree Road, was built on the former site of the Walden Chase apartment complex, which was destroyed in flooding that hit the area in September 2009.

The city acquired the property with a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, and used a portion of the money to demolish the property.

The park includes fencing, shade structures and restroom facilities. It also has separate areas for larger and smaller breed dogs, which are both fenced in and accessible through a transition area.

There's also a trail head leading to the Downtown Spur/Noonday Creek trails, which is part of the city's Greenprints Trails initiative.
