An Artist with a Gothic Style

Copper Coin barista David Williams doesn't see the world like the average joe, and this perspective shines in his dark art.

Local artist and David Williams has developed an interesting style he calls gothic impressionism, and this search for a personal style started when he was young. His uncle helped him in his artistic journey.

“I've been drawing since I was very young, but my uncle Joel Mark Williams was a great freelance artist, and he taught me a lot," Williams said. "I've also taken every art class I could since grade school."

Williams said he will always be loyal to pencils, but he also works with acrylic paints. He derives his style from his worldly perspective, saying he sees things slightly differently from others.

“I look at the world a little darker than everyone else, I want my art to shock and terrify."

He said he wants to improve on his use of realism, and enjoys drawing portraits and sketching often. In fact, he gains inspiration from candid sketches.

“Drawing people in a public place that don't know you're drawing them, those sketches always come out the best,” he said.

Good luck trying to find Williams creating, as he says his favorite place to draw is somewhere hidden with a bag full of art supplies. His goal with his art is to never stop advancing it, and he especially likes improving on how he channels emotions through art.

“My work may look a little unfinished, but its not. That's just where the emotion stopped. I'm gonna work on that.”

A newly planted Georgia resident, Williams is unsure of his plans for his art. He said he knows he wants to display it, but is awaiting the right moment.

“I really do need to let my art be seen. I just moved to Georgia from San Francisco so we will see what opportunities Atlanta has for me,” Williams explained.

Currently, Williams is open to any freelancing small pieces in his signature gothic, punk rock style.
