Kurt Thomas Band, Whiskey Gentry To Perform At 'Trailfest'

The Greenprints Alliance has finalized its list of music acts for Trailfest 2013, which will be held on March 23.

Organizers behind the fourth annual Trailfest 2013 have released the final line up for its music acts for its festival slated to hit Woodstock later this month.

The Whiskey Gentry and the Kurt Thomas Band, among others, will headline the festival organized by Greenprints Alliance, which is slated for 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 23 in downtown Woodstock.

Having recently been chosen by Paste Magazine as the "Best of What’s Next," The Whiskey Gentry have established themselves among the Atlanta music elite.

They have shared the stage with artists such as Doc Watson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rhett Miller of the Old 97s, John Popper, Ed Roland of Collective Soul, Chatham County Line and Slobberbone.

A recent finalist in the Chris Austin Songwriting Competition held at MerleFest, Lauren Staley's natural gifts with words and her powerful lead vocal abilities complement the band’s edgy interpretation of an otherwise traditional sound.

A commanding and high-energy live performance sets the bar for the way today’s country music ought to sound — honest, tight, daring and void of pretension.

Singer/songwriter Kurt Thomas grew up in Dahlonega and is known for small-town imagery in his songs and his most recent release is "Six Strings and a Prayer."

He was the 2008 winner for Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star Contest and has won CMT’s Music City Madness.

Other musical offerings rounding out the day’s performances are: Cute Boots; Red, White and Blues Band; and Jonathan Peyton.

New this year, Trailfest will have the talented Vincent Squire as our celebrity emcee. Squire has performed in "Dream Lover" with the Polk Street Players, and support roles on set in Necessary Roughness, Vampire Diaries and Drop Dead Divas. He is also famous for his role as "Bartender Extraordinaire" at Century House Tavern

While Trailfest always makes for a Saturday of exciting music, socializing and camaraderie, there is a greater purpose.

TrailFest is the largest fundraiser for Greenprints Alliance, a non-profit organization, which has an annual public and private contribution goal of $100,000 to fund green infrastructure projects as part of the award-winning Greenprints Master Plan of trails, pathways and inter-connectivity around Woodstock.

This year's sponsors for Trailfest are: Acru Money + Life, returning as the presenting sponsor; Outspokin’ Bicycles; New Belgium Brewing; Chattahoochee Gold Swimming; Cherokee Association of Realtors; and Woodstock West by Walton Communities.

Acru will host a Cash Mob with $20 given to the first 50 people who sign up to participate. Participants will gather at Acru at 4:00 p.m. and then walk to a nearby local business and mob them with cash as a direct reflection of their passion to invest in the local community.

"Acru is defined as much by our sense of community as by our expertise in banking, investments, insurance and tax planning," said Brad Nix, managing director of Acru. "We always seek to meet our customers where they are in life. Trailfest is just such an event and we are honored to be a part of this Woodstock, GA tradition."

Held at the Park at City Center in downtown Woodstock, Trailfest draws more than 3,000 people each year. Trailfest is a day filled with music performances by leading regional artists, craft beer and wine tastings, culinary delights from the Food Coalition, family-fun activities, raffle prizes, shopping, people watching and so much more. Ample parking is available all around downtown Woodstock.

General admission to the festival and concert is free. Donations are accepted on-site and online at www.greenprintsalliance.org.
