Young Photographer Uses Innate Talent

Savannah Holcomb is effortlessly inspired and shows her talent through her interesting photography.

As a young girl, Savannah Holcomb was always drawn to photography. This fascination grew through a thrifted Annie Leibovitz photography book, and Holcomb was inspired to pick up her mom's old Polaroid.

“I couldn't put it down,” Holcomb said of her first camera.

This fledgling photographer's style involves soft lighting and a natural vintage feel that is both aesthetically pleasing and immediately interesting. Holcomb is easily inspired and finds her muse in nearly everything.

“I can see the smallest thing and think of an entire photoshoot around the idea.”

Books help in her creative process as well. Holcomb envisions scenes while she reads and says she finds ideas in her mental pictures. She also cites music as a main source of inspiration and is constantly listening for more.

“I feel what that artist feels, then I feel compelled to go out and express my emotion through my lens,” Holcomb said.

While shooting, Holcomb instinctively visualizes the desired end for her photographs, and strives to make the final image resemble what she was experiencing at the moment of capture.

“My greatest strength is probably seeing my photographs in my head and knowing how I want everything done. I try to make my work where the viewer feels what I was feeling while I was taking them,” she explained.

This benchmark of a successful photographer, the ability to summon emotions, is obvious in Holcomb's work. She uses light and colors to her advantage, and her photographs are insightful portraits for her subjects.

“Strangers are also a big thing for me, or just people in general. I see people and want to know them and about their lives. I want to capture their lives in candids.”

Eventually, Holcomb wants to enter fashion photographer and open a gallery. Currently, Holcomb offers freelanced documentary and fashion or portrait photography and is always looking for more work to fill her Flickr account.
