Etowah Student Named to Student Advisory Council

The 50-member council will advise State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge on how policies are impacting the classroom.

An Etowah High School student has been named to the 2013-14 Student Advisory Council.

State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge has named Rashay Amarath-Madav, a junior at Etowah, to the council.

The 50 students on the council will meet three times throughout the 2013-14 school year to discuss with Barge how state policies are impacting students in the classroom.

The council's first meeting is on Friday. Over 700 students applied to be one of the 50 students selected. Students were chosen based on the strength of the essays they submitted as part of the process.

The superintendent noted having student input is "invaluable" as they are the ones who are most affected by the state's education policies.

"I’m excited about working with this group of students because they have very diverse backgrounds and will help me in the process of making education work for all students," Barge added.
