Review: Taste of Italy Italian Restaurant

On the menu: New York Style pizza with extra cheese and Italian sausage and Peroni Italian imported beer.

It was a night for baseball, pizza and something cold to wash it all down. My destination for all of the above was the on Highway 92.

When I opened the door the smell of pizzas baking in the oven drew me in like a huge magnet. I placed my order at the front counter: one medium New York Style pizza with extra cheese and Italian sausage ($13.10), and a cold Peroni Italian imported beer ($4.50). From there, I found a booth that afforded me the perfect position to watch the Red Sox/Orioles game.

While I waited for my freshly baked pizza, I had a chance to see what else the menu had to offer. There are nine Antipasti including one of my favorites, Fried Calamari. Others are Mozzarella Sticks, Bruschetta Casalinga (homemade bread with marinated tomatoes), Buffalo wings, Chicken Fingers and more.

There are eight salads to choose from including some you would expect like Caprese Salad, Caesar Salad, and a Greek Salad. The prices for the salads hang around $6.95 on average. There are Children’s Plates designed to satisfy the budding palates and please the parents with very reasonable prices under $5. The pasta dishes (Penne or Spaghetti) are offered with the five classic sauces: Marinara, Alfredo, meatballs, meat sauce and sausage. You know it’s the sauce, the homemade marinara sauce.

Chef’s specialties include Cheese Ravioli, Meat Tortellini, Tortellini alla Panna, Gnocchi Bolognese, Chicken Alfredo and Spaghetti with White or Red Clam Sauce. The specialties are served with garden or Caesar salad and homemade bread. The prices for these are fixed at $9.95.

Continuing along, you will find seven baked specialties that are the “must haves” from any Italian restaurant: Lasagna, Baked Ziti, Manicotti, Stuffed Shells, Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Parmigiana, and the ever elegant Veal Parmigiana. From $8.95-$12.95, these dishes are served with garden or Caesar salad and homemade bread. There are hot subs and cold subs, sandwiches and pizza sandwiches: Turkey/Bacon and Salami/Ham: singles at $5.75 and full pizza sandwiches at $19.95. The Sicilian Style pizza comes in one size: a 16” square—thick and abundant ($13.75) and each extra topping is just $2.

The thin and round, the classic New York Style was delivered to me fresh out of the oven, piping hot with the cheese in the perfect melt—long strings of hot cheese that teased the roof of my mouth and immediately called to memory all the joys of this particular delicacy. When pizza is good, life is good.

There are many more Italian delicacies available to you for dining in and for take out including the option to have The Original Taste of Italy Italian Restaurant and pizza cater your affair. The service was prompt, friendly and welcoming.

While my team lost by just one home run, my New York Style pizza was a hit over the fence.
