Review: TwoSome Place

This cozy Towne Lake teahouse not only offers a variety of impressive teas, but costumers can also choose from an appetizing sandwich menu and coffee bar.

Tucked away along Towne Lake Parkway is a teahouse in a small, architecturally modest building among other typical strip-mall suite-mates. Once inside, however, the minimalist sleek lines, cozy tables for two or four arranged along a wall of windows that bathe the room with light and warmth may cause you to forget that bustling traffic is just outside the door. The atmosphere at Two Some Place is immediately serene and peaceful. The room is designed to direct the customers to the front counter where the orders are placed.

I was instantly impressed with the tea-tasting service: a generous arrangement of clear glass pots of gold colored herbal teas that are kept warm by small tea lights. The selections of organic herbal teas included Rose, Chrysanthemum, Chamomile, Green Citrus and Japanese Apricot ($3.95).

The sandwiches are posted on the board overhead. There are nine interesting selections ranging in price from $6.95-8.95. What sets these sandwiches apart from the norm is the combination of ingredients, for example the ham sandwich (these sandwiches are not named after anything or anybody) is combined with Gouda cheese, green apples, red onion, arugula, mayo and honey mustard—interesting. The turkey sandwich contains Brie cheese, cranberry relish, and red onion, arugula, mayo and honey mustard—very nice flavor construction here. The choices for breads are white, whole-grain, Marble rye, Kaiser roll and Baguette.

I selected the Salmon BLT ($7.95), a grilled salmon filet with bacon, lettuce, tomato with an avocado-jalapeño spread and mayo on Marble Rye bread. All the sandwiches come with your choice of fresh fruit, garden salad or chips. Although my marble rye bread was a wee bit soggy, I found the taste combination of the salmon, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes to offer up a lovely sandwich.

Additionally, Two Some Place sports a coffee bar with a modest array of coffee and tea drinks: Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, Americano, Iced Coffees with Mocha, Caramel, Hazelnut, and French Vanilla flavors, and Chai Tea which range in price from $2.50 to $3.50. The Frappes are $3.95 and come in caramel, mocha, vanilla bean and green tea latte flavors. The smoothies are $4.95, and you can choose up to three fruit combinations from Mango, Banana, Pineapple, Peach, Strawberry, and Wild Berry Medley (Raspberry, Blackberry, and Blueberry). There is also a menu for the kiddoes with grilled cheese, PB&J, Ham and Cheese sandwiches standing at the ready.

The baked goods and pastries fill the display cases in the front of the store and along several shelves on one side of the room. These temptation-evoking items include the likes of Raspberry Almond Cakes, Puff Pastries with custard cream, Cranberry Walnut Baguettes with sweet butter cream, a Soufflé Cheesecakes, Mango Mousse, and a Tiramisu Mousse—and many more that haunt my imagination and beckon my taste buds. The establishment is available to cater events so keep that in mind for a special meeting or party.

The total atmosphere of Two Some Place can be described as peaceful, unhurried, comfortable, clean and modern. The service was prompt in that I did not have to wait long for my meal, and the prices are quite reasonable. The service has expanded to include breakfast, so check them out one early morning on your way to work, school or just because. I would direct you to their website, but I have not been able to locate them on the Web. Your best bet may be to call if you have any questions or desire a booking for a catered affair.

I’ll be back to try some of the desserts that sound so divine. Give them a try as well. There is a lot to choose and enough variety to please most everyone.
