Sam's Club Wants To Move Into Woodstock

The company is asking the city of Woodstock to grant the requested variances and to allow them to operate a fuel center at the corner of Highway 92 and Main Street.

Sam's Club is eyeing the possibility of opening a facility in the old Walmart building at the corner of Main Street and Highway 92.

According to documents filed with the Woodstock Community Development Department, the company is asking the city for three variances and a conditional use permit to operate a fuel center on the property, which is zoned Downtown Commercial Mixed Use.

The variances requested are to increase the number of parking spaces allotted, to the city's open space requirements and to the city's code compliance certificate to address specific site issues.

The case will go before the Woodstock Planning Commission on July 10, and it's slated to be decided by the Woodstock City Council during its July 28 meeting.

The building currently is the anchor for the Woodstock Place Shopping Center, which sits at the northwest corner of Highway 92 and Main Street in Woodstock.

It housed Walmart before the facility moved to a location on Highway 92 just east of Trickum Road. Since Walmart's move, the building served as the location of Woodstock Market and Ben's Furniture
