Woodstock West is a 'Development of Excellence'

A new downtown Woodstock apartment complex was one of four communities that were named as one of the region's standout developments for 2013. 

Woodstock West by Walton Communities, the 308 apartment unit community that sits just west of Main Street, received the Livable Centers Initiative Achievement Award under the 2013 Developments of Excellence umbrella.

The four communities were recognized during the ARC's State of the Region breakfast on Friday.

Developments of Excellence recognizes communities "that exemplify cutting-edge, livable designs that are helping to set a new standard for future development," the ARC said on Friday.

“We are pleased to recognize developments and places that offer new options for living or add to our general quality of life,” said ARC Chairman Tad Leithead. 

The Woodstock West project was commended for going hand-in-hand with the city of Woodstock's plan to "re-imagine" its central business district. The city got the ball rolling on that vision in 2002 when it applied for its first Livable Centers Initiative grant. 

Other communities recognized include: 

• Development of Excellence: Oliver House at Allen Wilson 
• Great Place Award (given to a place in metro Atlanta that represents livability and sustainability, but is not necessarily a single, private development): Piedmont Park
• Exceptional Merit for Adaptive Reuse: Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail
