The Real Story – Part 2

Sunlight is the best antiseptic when it comes to government.

It seems the discussion of my voting record in the local magazine featuring my opponent’s $3,000 ad paid for by his parents titled “We Don’t Need Another Career Politician” continues to be a topic around town.

Sunlight is the best antiseptic when it comes to government.  I have always believed that you cannot get enough transparency.  All important information at the Capitol is available online including a legislator’s voting record for citizen's review at http://www.legis.ga.gov/en-US/default.aspx and http://www.house.ga.gov/clerk/en-US/default.aspx so you can learn the truth.

My five principles upon which this great nation was founded form the basis for my vote: 1) decreasing the size of government, 2) lessening the tax burden, 3) promoting personal responsibility, 4) ensuring liberty and justice for all and 5) exercising the proper role of government.  Principles, by which, we should govern!  Legislators change a vote[s] on a bill after the vote has been tallied because one learns the author of the bill added/removed language, which changes the intent of the bill and does not adhere to the 5-principles.  When this happens, I have and will continue to change my vote. My vote may change; my convictions remain the same.

Also in his ad, my opponent accused me of being a career politician, and falsely claimed I never had a real job.  It brought a smile to my face!  My private sector background is diverse – middle school teacher, general manager for privately held restaurant business, J. Paul Getty Foundation, office manager for a law firm and a music management company, employee of Dun & Bradstreet, and even a sales position for a company selling construction and drilling equipment to oil companies.  I actually applied, and unlike my opponent, I went through the application process to get these jobs.  Rather interesting, since my opponent is 22 living off his father's career.  His only experience has been running for political office.  Now he wants to start his career off at taxpayer’s expense!

I have a strong faith in the people of District 20 to research the truth and not listen to innuendos.  Based on your faith in me, I choose to concentrate on issues important to Georgia.

In closing, I am a true Conservative voice for you at the Capitol.   The legislative watchdog website: www.electtherightcandidate.com gave me a perfect 100% conservative rating, making me one of only two legislators in the House with that rating.  This election is too important for the petty politics of personal attacks that distort the truth just so one can be elected.

I am truly honored and humbled to serve in the General Assembly representing District 20.   If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 404-557-2218.

Please vote on July 31st.  Vote Charlice Byrd.
