Recent Billboard Additions

Many of you may have noticed a new but unwelcome addition to Woodstock's skyline.

Many of you may have noticed a new but unwelcome addition to Woodstock’s skyline. A billboard was recently installed at the BP Station at the corner of Highway 92 and Trickum Road.

We have received many calls and emails asking why the city would allow such a monstrosity to be built in the city. Well, the fact is the city not only didn’t allow it but the mayor and City Council fought hard to keep this and other billboards out of the city.

Unfortunately, the billboard company filed suit against the city on a procedural technicality, and we lost. The judge ordered the city to allow all eight of the proposed billboards to be installed.

In an effort to reduce the impact of these signs, the city negotiated a settlement with the company to only install six of the eight signs. The newest one at Highway 92 and Trickum is the last of the six to be installed.

After the lawsuit, the city engaged a sign attorney to assist in strengthening our sign ordinance to prohibit any additional billboards in inappropriate areas and to clarify procedures.
