Chance of Rain, School Board Meets and More

Here's everything you need to know before leaving the house today, Thursday, June 23.

1) Today there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The skies will be partly sunny, with a high near 83. 

Tonight there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. 

2) The Cherokee County Board of Education will decide the fate of Cherokee Charter Academy at a 6 p.m. meeting Friday. The meeting will be held in the 1,000-seat Cherokee High School auditorium. 

3) Christy Black was awarded the 2011 Administrative Professional of the Year award by the Appalachian Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals on May 24.

Black is the executive assistant to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners and county manager, and has worked in various administrative positions in the public sector for the past 15 years. She was nominated by County Manager Jerry Cooper, along with the five county commissioners.

4) The cheapest gas in Woodstock today is $3.42 at BJ's, 105 Long Dr. and Molly Lane.
