Wing & Rock Fest Will Return To Woodstock

The 8th annual 97.1 The River Wing & Rock Fest is set for May 31-June 2 in downtown Woodstock.

The 8th annual 97.1 The River Wing & Rock Fest is set to return to Woodstock later this year.

The festival, organized by USA Entertainment, Inc., will host the festival from 6 p.m. Friday May 31, noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday June 1 and and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday June 2.

The council approved a temporary alcohol license for the company to hold the festival at the Park at City Center.

The event, which usually has free admission, is slated to have two designated areas where alcohol will be served — on the lower level of the park. The festival will feature food, music, arts & crafts and a kids zone.

A wing-eating contest is also typically held during the event.

Nearly 20,000 people are expected to flock to Woodstock for the event.

The council also voted 4-1, with Council member Liz Baxter opposing, to revise the contract of Woodstock City Manager Jeff Moon. Baxter voted against the measure after stating she felt it was "extremely early" to vote on the contract revisions.

The contract is now valid through Dec. 31, 2015, and is revised to reflect Moon's current salary of $137,891.29.

Moon said he's declined any pay increases for 2014 and 2015 in exchange for removing the 100-mile restriction on other employment opportunities. The contract now says Moon won't pursue any employment options in Cherokee County.

Moon told the council he wanted to "preserve" any and all future employment options in order to do what's best for him and his family.

Moon has been with the city since February 2008 after serving as the city manager in Orange Beach.

The council also voted to authorize Mayor Donnie Henriques to execute a deed so the city can perform a right-of-way swap with Horizon Group Properties as part of the Woodstock Parkway relocation.

Horizon relocated the road as part of its Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta project.

The council met in executive session to discuss potential litigation and personnel. Upon returning, the council declined to hear an appeal from an employee who was terminated by the city.

Council member Randy Brewer was not present.
