Scott Gordon Wins Cherokee Commission Race

Candidate K. Scott Gordon defeated fellow challenger Larry Singleton by 47 votes for the District 4 on the Cherokee County Commission.

Unofficial results show Woodstock resident K. Scott Gordon has defeated fellow challenger Larry Singleton in a tight race to become the next Cherokee County District 4 commissioner.

Gordon won the July 22 Republican general primary runoff with 51 percent, or 1,901 votes to Singleton's 49, or 1,854 votes.

District 4 covers Woodstock, Towne Lake and southwest Cherokee County.

The district has a total of 31,342 registered voters and only 3,755 votes — or 13 percent — of voters showed up to the polls on Tuesday.

Gordon said he was grateful to the voters for "honoring me with the opportunity to serve as their next commissioner."

"As a first-time candidate, I am humbled by the support of the voters that resulted in this victory," he said, adding he wanted to thank his family and friends for their support and Cherokee County leaders for their endorsement.

Singleton on his Facebook page congratulated Gordon "on an awesome come from behind victory."

"I am quite certain he will serve the voters of District 4 quite well," he added.

When reached by phone, Singleton, a former county commissioner, said he and his supporters knocked on thousands of doors in an efforts to become the newest face on the commission.

However, Tuesday's results show the voters have spoken and "this is what they want," Singleton said.

The former county commissioner noted he will not ask for a recount of the votes.

Both Gordon and Singleton, a former Cherokee County commissioner, advanced to the runoff from the May 20 primary. Coming in third place was challenger and local business owner Joe Robert, who passed away in June
