Thompson, Laughridge in Senate District Runoff

The five-candidate race encompassed voters in western Cherokee, eastern Bartow and a small portion of northern Cobb County.

The special election to fill Georgia Senate District 14 seat will extend into next month.

Bartow County Republicans Bruce Thompson of White and Matt Laughridge of Cartersville will head to a runoff in December.

Unofficial results show Thompson received 33.39 percent, or 2,403 votes in the district, which encompasses mostly eastern Bartow, western Cherokee County and a sliver of northern Cobb County.

Laughridge received 25.57 percent, or 1,840 votes in the race.

Canton resident and Republican Dwight Pullen came in third with 21.37 percent, or 1,538 votes. He's followed by Adairsville Democrat Christopher Nesmith at 11.99 percent, or 863 votes; and Republican Nicole Ebbeskotte of Woodstock at 7.68 percent, or 533 votes.

Pullen on his Facebook page noted his campaign came roughly 200 votes short to make the runoff.

"I want to thank all those that worked so hard," he said. "I am blessed that God has placed you in my life. Join me in having faith that this was part of God's plan."

A total of 7,197 votes were cast in the race, the majority of which residing in Cherokee county. 

The special election will be held Tuesday Dec. 3 and polls will once again be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
