UPDATE: Woodstock Incumbents Keep Council Seats

Ward 3 Councilman Bob Mueller and Bud Leonard of Ward 5 were both re-elected while Warren Johnson was chosen to represent Ward 1.

Woodstock residents have sent two incumbents back into office, while electing a new face to its City Council.

Bob Mueller of Ward 3 and Bud Leonard of Ward 5 were both re-elected by Woodstock voters on Tuesday. Mueller faced off against resident former Woodstock Planning Commissioner Judy Davila while Leonard ran against former council member Susan Jones for the seat.

Unofficial results also show residents also chose resident Warren Johnson to succeed Randy Brewer — who decided not to seek re-election — to represent residents in Ward 1. Johnson defeated candidate and former planning commission member John Szczesniak for the seat.

With 13,965 registered voters, Woodstock had 758, or 5 percent, of its voters cast ballots.

Johnson carried the city with 57.2 percent, or 409 votes, as opposed to Szczesniak's 303 votes or 42.38 percent.

Johnson, who lost to Brewer in the 2009 municipal election, said he was humbled by the support residents showed him. He attributed his win to "hard work" and residents wanting responsible development.

Mueller won with 372, or 52 percent of vote. Davila trailed the incumbent with 47.97 percent, or 343 votes.

Mueller said he believed residents appreciated his decision to run a positive campaign and saw both him and Leonard as examples of Woodstock moving forward.

He noted he wants to continue to see the city through some of its long awaited projects, such as the proposed amphitheater downtown and the completion of the Greenprints trail network.

Leonard defeated Jones with 52.66 percent, or 386 votes. Jones netted 47.20 percent, or 346 votes.

The incumbent councilman said felt his positive message resonated with voters, and noted those voters were well aware that Woodstock actually did achieve several accomplishments in the last eight years.

"I’m excited that the citizens of Woodstock trusted me enough to give me another term," he added.
