Stage Premiere in Woodstock

Flippin' Thru the Rolodex will hit the City Center stage the first weekend in August.

Though there have been premieres of new works over the years at the Towne Lake Arts Center/Elm Street Cultural Arts Village, the one happening this August has some unique elements, including the title Flippin’ Thru the Rolodex.

“The play is so funny, although it actually started as a screenplay," said Creator Brenda “Mimi” Fontaine. "Ernest Thompson, author of On Golden Pond, was the driving force in Flippin’ turning the corner and heading for the stage. It was on that corner that I found Artistic Director G. Lora Grooms of Elm Street, or was it her that found me?”

Page Turner Promotions, lead by Brenda’s literary agent, Kathleen Longspaugh, is producing the play on the Elm Street/City Center stage.

"Flippin’ Thru the Rolodex is a side splitting comedy about four widowed men reliving their younger years. You will laugh until you cry,” Longspaugh said.

Ed Palombo, well known locally as the recently retired drama director at and current President of Cherokee Theater Company was hired by Fontaine and Longspaugh to direct. Flippin' Thru the Rolodex is a delightful crossover of The Golden Girls and a senior version of Men of a Certain Age, says Palombo.

“It's a romp of four unique characters still looking to fall in love!"

The cast features seasoned local performers who have spent many hours rehearsing over the past two months. Rich Goodman, Joe Rebele, Jesse Irwin, Jayne Hopping, Marc and Annette Nellums, Linda Reyes, Candice Stepp, Jay Loula, Jennifer Hemmer, Byron Harvey, Eliott Grenier, Martha Kennedy, Jessica Williams and a huge Great Dane!

"It is exciting to be in the first production of this very funny, nostalgic look into the dating experiences of four old guys," says Annette Nellums whose husband, Marc,  plays one of those ‘four old guys.’

Flippin’ Thru the Rolodex will hit the City Center stage the first weekend in August: Friday, Aug. 5 at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 6 at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door 30 minutes prior to showtimes at 8534 Main St. for only $11 and can also be purchased in advance through Eventbrite or call 813-215-7797.
