'Totes 2 Tots' Gives Backpacks To Foster Children

The 12th annual Totes 2 Tots suitcase drive will be held Friday, Jan. 17 in Canton.

An annual campaign to provide new backpacks to foster children will return to Cherokee County.

The 12th annual Totes 2 Tots suitcase drive will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 at Georgia Cancer Specialists' Canton office. 

The office is located at 228 Riverstone Drive.

The campaign calls for new or gently used backpacks and kid-sized suitcases to be donated for foster children throughout the state. About 7,500 children are currently in the foster care system in Georgia, and many of these children are forced to used garbage bags to pack their belongings in when they are removed form a home. 

Since its inception in 2003, Totes 2 Tots has collected and distributed more than 33,000 bags.

Originally held on Martin Luther King Day as a way to honor Dr. King’s vision and give back to the community, the event is now held on the preceding Friday, to kick-off the weekend of service. 

To participate in Totes 2 Tots, simply drop off a new or nearly new bag on Friday, Jan. 17, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the nearest Georgia Cancer Specialists office.
