Back to My Routes

I've changed jobs, now driving from Towne Lake to Kennesaw instead of Alpharetta, and I have to adapt to the new journey and more crucially, find out about those all important short cuts!

I changed jobs recently, so I am now working closer to home in Kennesaw to be precise. My previous job was in Alpharetta so I had two routes of choice from Towne Lake. Swinging down Bascomb Carmel onto Highway 92 which was a straight shot albeit it once punctuated with about 40 red lights. Apart from the railway tracks just past Shallowford and the huge rotunda of and Kidzstock, the route is disappointingly homogenous. You really could be anywhere in America until you get to the outskirts of Roswell and its twin water towers.

The other route was the more leisurely but picturesque Arnold Mill Road. This was more like it—barns, churches, stables and pastures either side of the road and nothing but green, green, green as far as the eye can see. Also, there is the chance that you will get so close to a landing light-aircraft at the airstrip that you can tell what color socks the pilot is wearing!

This is Georgia for me, the land of trees and mountains. When we were first looking for somewhere to live around Marietta and Woodstock, we used Google Maps and Streetview to narrow down locations. One of my friends remarked that it looked like we were going to move into the world’s largest Broccoli patch!

The new position is in Kennesaw so I get to enjoy, if that’s the right word, 575 for the stretch between Towne Lake and Chastain Road. I quite like Kennesaw from the little I have seen of it so far; the stretch between the Interstates reminds me of what 92 must have been when it was first built.

The main problem now is that I have gone from a 45 plus minute commute to a steady 15 minutes which sounds delightful, but I was quite accustomed to using the time to listen to podcasts, music, make calls and generally chill out—sometimes on the way to my old job! Not that I’m complaining.

We are entering my very favorite period of the year, I’ve got a great new job, but I’m still waiting for the other foot to drop. Things are going suspiciously well.
