Help Main Street GROW through Design

GROW is made up of volunteers who wish to further the green initiatives and provide the foundation for volunteer interests in beautifications projects around town.

The Design Committee is charged with working toward great Design initiatives in the Downtown Woodstock area. Design is multifaceted in the way it affects the quality of the way people experience our Main Street. Design lays the foundation for how an area functions for the Community while at the same time enhancing the aesthetic value of the area architecture and open spaces. The end product is a well choreographed experience that continually draws people into our Woodstock.

The Design committee also gave birth to a new offshoot group in 2011. GROW (Green Reaps Opportunity for Woodstock), originally named Woodstock Flower League, was begun by the Design committee last year with intentions of furthering Green initiatives and providing the foundation for volunteer interests in beautifications projects around town. GROW is in its infancy as the group works towards organizing their efforts and 'grow'ing their volunteer base. The founding committee members have also begun coordination to collaborate Green initiatives being pursued by the City of Woodstock. Here are what volunteers have to say about their experience working with GROW.

"I enjoy being around like-minded people working to improve our community using nature as our medium," Kathy Sawyer said.

"Grow is like a young plant just starting to put down roots and with the great people we already have and will have in the future you don't want to miss not being part of one of the best groups in Woodstock," Diane Geeslin said. "Go with the flow and become part of GROW."

The Design committee creates a work plan each year to tackle key projects for the purpose of furthering the function and form of downtown. Goals for 2012 seek to improve area signage (both for aesthetic value and way finding improvement), continue phased installation of additional landscaping along Main Street and in pocket areas around downtown, address how Wall Street can be utilized for outdoor spaces and support the vision for Woodstock to become an arts community by contributing efforts toward more art installations.
