Alpharetta Shooting Victim's Sister Says Family Struggling

The family of Zachary Allen Rose, who attended Woodstock High School, is holding visitation in Canton today, and the funeral Saturday afternoon, but they need help to pay the costs.

The family of Zachary Allen Rose, a victim in a , is struggling to cope with his death, and to find funds to pay for his funeral.

"We just celebrated his birthday, he just turned 22," said his sister, Audrey Greene, as she worked on creating a video of her brother to be shown at the funeral home.

"He had a lot of friends," she said.

Zachary was visiting one of his friends, a former coworker, in Alpharetta when he was shot.

His sister just found out that the suspect being sought by Alpharetta police was previously accused of a similar crime.

He's left behind his family and those friends.

"He got his mom and dad, one other brother, one other sister," Greene said. "And his big baby dog, his only 'child', a Great Dane [named] Mathias."

Her brother loved working on his sporty cars and was a hard worker. He worked for Hydrodynamics, a pressure washing company, she said.

Growing up with her brother was fun, Greene said.

"He was always the wild child, the daredevil," she said.

His dad would buy him dirt bikes and four-wheelers, and they had go karts. But he was the one to act like a daredevil with them.

"He even got a car before he had his license," she said. "He loved his cars, loves his four-wheeling, loves motocross, dirt bike riding."

"We grew up around Woodstock. We never moved far from where our old houses used to be in the Woodstock-Canton area," she said.

Zachary went to Woodstock High School, and then to Crossroads High School (now Ace Academy) in Holly Springs, she said.

He lived at home with his mom and dad in Canton.

Now the family is having trouble just giving him a funeral.

"He didn't have any insurance," his sister said.

So the family set up a memorial account at Wells Fargo to help his parents to bury him. Mom doesn't work, and dad hasn't worked for the past week – and Greene doesn't know when he will return to work after this week's events.

"Mom wanted to give him a proper funeral," Greene said.

Darby's Funeral Home in Canton was the only place they could find who would work with them, she said.

Greene said you would never expect this to happen. She's watched the news and seen this same kind of thing happen, only this time her brother was a part of the story.

"Nobody takes anything for granted or expects anything," she said a few days after going through this experience.

Funeral services for Zachary Allen Rose, 22, are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2 from the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Robertson officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 1 at Darby Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m.
