In Memory: Miles Canyon McChesney, "Our Little Prince"

Miles Canyon McChesney passed away from complications of Alper's Disease, a rare mitochondrial disorder, one month before his second birthday.

The following obituary was submitted by Lakeside Funeral Home:

Miles Canyon McChesney, who was just shy of his second birthday, passed away peacefully at his home where he lived with his parents, Scott and Staci, his big brothers Tristan and Devon and his beloved dogs, Holly and Georgie.

Miles, also known as "our little prince," was born a happy, healthy child on July 25, 2012. Miles initially became sick when he was just 10 months old. We later learned that he had Alper's Disease, a rare form of Mitochondrial Disease, for which there is no cure. Despite many ups and downs throughout the course of his disease, Miles remained such a brave and special boy; throughout it all, he was the joy of our lives.

He is survived by his loving parents, Scott and Staci McChesney and his brothers Tristan and Devon Decker of Marietta, Georgia; grandparents, Herb and Barbara McChesney of Woodstock, Georgia; grandparents, Gerry and Judi Rea of Columbus, Indiana ; uncle and aunt, Lee and Wendy McChesney and their two children Ella and Brett of Reisterstown, Maryland; uncle and aunt, Chip and Teresa Kuhrts and son Kasey of Palmetto, Florida; uncle and aunt, Clive and Cheryl McChesney and their children, Christian, Monica, Lauren, Tia and Cameron of Woodstock, Georgia.

A public memorial service for Miles was held on Monday, June 16 at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock.

The family will received visitors on Monday, June 16th at Lakeside, as well as at their home.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, by calling 404-785-6010 or by visiting www.choa.org/tribute
